Monaco is strengthening its role in global ocean research with a new international secretariat dedicated to mapping the seabed, more than 70% of which remains unmapped to modern standards. Prince Albert II has officially inaugurated a permanent secretariat for the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), an international programme dedicated to mapping the world's ocean floor.
